Did you know that being on birth control can alter who you find attractive and choose as a mate?

Research has found that estrogen is the hormone responsible for the qualities, scents, and behaviors that women find attractive in men. As estrogen increases during the menstrual cycle, so does a women’s sexual desire as well as cues of quality genetics in men.

Women with normal levels of estrogen tend to find qualities associated with testosterone more attractive. This is thought to be because high levels of testosterone as associated with more successful pregnancies and more surviving children.

But birth control keeps estrogen levels very low.

It would make sense that being on birth control leads to women finding men with lower levels of testosterone more attractive.

This has major implications for couples when the women stops birth control, especially once married.
