While Sensory Processing Disorder is often dismiss

While Sensory Processing Disorder is often dismissed as simply bad behavior, doctors who specialize in SPD know much more about what’s happening.

To find the root cause of these struggles we have to go all the way back to your child’s development - often even before delivery. ➡️

One of the very first things to develop in utero is the brain and autonomic nervous system, so if our mothers are left in a constant state of distress & anxiety, this can greatly affect the developing infant’s brain 🧠 & nervous system.

Another trigger of SPD is birth intervention & trauma which can disrupt the function of the brainstem & upper cervical spinal cord regions, which are the most important areas for processing & integrating sensory information before it reaches the brain. Think of the brainstem as “Air Traffic Control” for all of your child’s seven senses. It’s responsible for not only organizing & processing the information, but also keeping out unwanted nociception. 🔇

The reason your child may be avoiding certain stimuli is to avoid additional ‘noisy’ & stressful situations 😣 they can’t yet tolerate. Additionally, if they are constantly moving & seeking out physical touch and stimulation, they are doing so in order to bring about proprioception, which is the sense of movement. While it may not seem like it, all of that movement & touching things is actually calming their brain down.

It's one thing to talk through ‘why’ this is happening - but more importantly, how do we help it?

At Pinnacle Chiropractic, we use INSiGHT Scans to find, track, and understand if subluxation & dysautonomia are present. If they are, we need to know two things about them:

1️⃣ How significant or severe (mild, moderate, severe, or intensive)?
2️⃣ Where within the neurospinal system are things primarily located (tracking, targeting)?
